Operation RedBlock Captain Ken Powell helps maintain a safe workplace.
Sacramento keeps Operation RedBlock education fun and delicious. Each month, the team hosts a 12-hour RedBlock awareness event with free food.
Past events have included tacos, ice cream and barbecue.
The team’s goal is to ensure employees know the program exists to confidentially help employees and their family members overcome drug and alcohol addiction.
“The monthly events have allowed me to interact with employees I don’t see on a regular basis and promote a program that has tremendous benefits for everyone I work with,” said Locomotive Engineer Ken Powell, a RedBlock captain.
Powell has worked for Amtrak since July 1999. He helped with RedBlock in minor ways to start and became a captain in September 2013 when BLET Chapter 144 decided to support RedBlock. As a locomotive engineer, Powell appreciates the program’s safety aspect.
“We are in a very safety-sensitive job, and this program helps maintain a safe workplace,” he said.
Powell thanked the Western Division Steering Committee and the local managers who support the RedBlock cause.
